Specialist Nursing Services


About 50% of persons referred to RDNS require wound management. The most common types of wounds managed by RDNS nurses are acute wounds, leg ulcers and pressure ulcers. However, RDNS nurses are skilled in managing many types of wounds. RDNS utilises the latest techniques and products for treatment of wounds.


All general nurses in RDNS provide wound management and RDNS has a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) who specialises in wound management.


Nurses providing wound management in RDNS:


  • Assess persons with wounds to determine the best treatment plan;
  • Develop a treatment plan in conjunction with the person with a wound;
  • Deliver direct clinical care to persons with wounds;
  • Monitor and evaluate the outcome of wound care;
  • Work with other health professionals to coordinate care and refer to other health services if and when they are required;
  • Are guided by up to date, policies and protocols based on best available research and practice.

RDNS prides itself on delivering a high standard of wound management using practices and treatments based on contemporary research.
