Client Rights and Responsibilities

Your rights and service expectations

As a client of RDNS you have a right to receive the following from our service:

  • To be treated with dignity, respect and consideration 
  • To have your ethnic, cultural and religious practices and beliefs respected
  • To be informed on what to expect from RDNS, the care for you and your carer, and to be involved in decisions about your care
  • To receive clear and current information on the care options and other services available to you 
  • To be asked for your consent before any treatment
  • To change your decision about the care received, or refuse care and to be given an explanation of the possible consequences of your decisions regarding your care
  • To know the name and professional status of the nurse who is caring for you 
  • To expect privacy and confidentially
  • To refuse the presence of other people who may accompany the nurse (students, researchers)
  • To have your needs represented by an advocate (relative, friend, advocacy service)
  • To complain if you are not happy with the service/care and have the complaint dealt with fairly and promptly and without impacting on the future care you may need
  • To be offered or to ask for an interpreter

Your responsibilities

As a client of RDNS we ask that you:

  • Treat staff with courtesy and respect and to be non-abusive and non-threatening
  • Provide a safe environment for the nurse to provide your care
  • Ask questions to clarify anything you do not understand
  • Participate in achieving the care plan goals that you and your nurse have agreed to
  • Inform the nurse when you are not able to attend a scheduled visit
