People suffering from chronic wounds will now be able to access Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS SA) nurses at select pharmacies in Adelaide. In a first for Australia, the RDNS SA has partnered with community pharmacy group Chemplus to offer expert treatment and essential advice on wound management.
Chronic wounds, particularly leg ulcers, are a significant health issue throughout South Australia and affect more than 270,000 Australians today. With more than half of people referred to RDNS requiring wound management, the organisation is at the forefront of research into the causes, healing and prevention of chronic wounds.

“Through this new RDNS and Chemplus partnership, a Registered Nurse with expert knowledge in wound care and wound care solutions will be onsite and available to those who need it,” said Mr Cleaver. “Patients who require additional care will be referred to the appropriate health service.
“RDNS’ continuing research into the treatment and prevention of wounds will be instrumental in the success of this service. Through this collaboration, RDNS can ensure that any new developments in the care of wounds are rolled out and swiftly available throughout selected Chemplus pharmacies for the benefit of the patient.”
“The Chemplus pharmacies are an ideal base for our team of RDNS registered nurses. They are easily accessible, instantly recognisable and already trusted by the community.”
The first RDNS and Chemplus clinic opens this week at Royston Park. Lewis Pounentis, who owns the Royston Park pharmacy said: “RDNS and Chemplus are both focussed on the well-being of people in order to provide the most comprehensive and professional care possible.”
Available Monday to Friday, the service currently operates between 9am and 1pm. Clinics at Payneham and other Chemplus pharmacies are to follow. Enquiries and bookings can be made on 1300 364 264.
