RDNS receives national excellence award for innovation

I am delighted to advise that RDNS SA is the category winner for Excellence in the Innovation in Information Technology in the 2009 Federal Minister for Ageing Awards for Excellence in Aged Care. Our application was for our Mobility solution.


With 440 field staff providing nursing, allied health and care services in the homes of thousands of South Australians every year, RDNS SA (Royal District Nursing Service of SA Inc) needed a technology solution that would enable professionals to have access to real-time information wherever their location.


The mobile solution, developed in a unique collaboration between RDNS and Microsoft delivers, enables our health and care workers to perform the following functions in real time:

  • Management of client appointment, demographic and clinical information
  • Entering of actual service information including care actions
  • The ordering medical supplies
  • Facilitating communication between clients, carers, family members and other health care professionals
  • Management of employee organisational appointments such as meetings and training programs
  • Management of client and employee “To Do List” items such as capturing missing client data and reminders to update drivers licence information when it falls due
  • Enables viewing organisational policy and procedure manuals.

These Awards recognise best practice and innovation in residential and community aged care and recognise aged care staff and providers who provide exemplarily care to older Australians.


The categories were:


  • Innovation in Staff Recruitment and Retention
  • Excellence in Training and Staff Development
  • Innovation in Information Technology

There were two {2} other individual award categories:


  • Leadership and Achievement
  • Achievement in Service Provision in Regional Rural Remote areas
