Careers - Nursing
Our nurses working in the community are mostly RN Level 1 and Enrolled Nurses. All of these nurses provide generalist nursing care to clients and manage their own specific client caseload with minimal supervision. Supporting the field nurses are various RN Level 2 positions. RN Level 3 generalist nurses are also available to staff at all times to assist them with complex care or difficult nursing decisions.
Other senior nurses choose to specialise and provide consultancy services to our nurses and the community in a variety of areas, e.g:
- Palliative Care
- Continence
- Diabetes
- Disabilities
- HIV/Aids
- Mental Health
- Wound Care
Our contact centre, RDNS Direct, is also an interesting and challenging area of work for Registered and Enrolled Nurses who have excellent computer and communication skills. Using the latest technology, this service provides nursing and health information to any caller 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The contact centre is a great resource for our field nurses should they require any information while in the clients’ home.
Staff identify some of the best things about working for RDNS:
- Working autonomously but with lots of support from colleagues and specialist nurses
- Real job satisfaction in supporting clients to maintain a level of control and independence in their lives
- Spending quality time and developing relationships with my clients
- The family friendly working hours – no shift work unless I want to
- Being out and about rather than in the confines of an institutional setting
- Using a broader range of my nursing skills
RDNS supports me to be the best I can be by:
- Offering lots of professional development opportunities (including paid study time)
- Having great safety systems so I’m safe at work
- Providing a comprehensive orientation (3 months) to my role
- Valuing the nurses role in the health care industry
